Sea Kayak Navigation Fundamentals for SMSKN Members

Spend a day learning and practicing the essential skills involved in sea kayak navigation with guide Suzanne Blackburn. This course will prepare you to use a nautical chart to plot a course, navigate in low visibility conditions and find your way if you get lost. You’ll spend part of the day learning skills on land and much of the day in your kayaks applying these skills on the water. The group will move at a modest pace and take breaks, but all students should be prepared to paddle for a few hours. Please pack a lunch.

Students are asked to bring a handheld compass and a nautical chart of Casco Bay. These items are also available for purchase at Portland Paddle. Please also bring a deck compass if you own one.
